When did these three little words (sometimes four, sometimes one–idunno) become so bad? When did saying “I don’t know” become as bad as saying a swear word? Whatever happened to people being honest? Whatever happened to, “sorry, I don’t know the answer to your question”? Why do people feel like they need to have the answer to everything? That is, instead of having the correct answer to one thing. For example, please humor me during the following dialog of past conversations.
Me: I need to make a graduation plan.
Academic advisor: What classes do you want to take to fulfill your 15- credit major emphasis requirements?
Me: Well, I already have my four credit academic internship which is within the School of Family Life. It isn’t listed but this here form says, “any class in SFL not listed above.” Does it count?
Academic advisory: yyyesssss.
Me: Great!

Me: I need to change some things for my graduation plan, etc., etc.

Me: I have my four credit internship, plus consumer health for 2 credits….etc., etc.
Academic Advisor: Great.

Today
Me: I need to change some things for my graduation plan so I can graduate in April!
Academic Advisor: Great! It looks like you have four more credits for your emphasis. What would you like to take?
Me: Excuse me? Oh, I see that you forgot to include the four credits from my internship.
Academic advisor: Oh, those credits don’t actually count towards your emphasis credits.
Me: I was told that it did.
Academic advisor: Did you get that in writing?
Me: And as for this approved graduation plan (pointing)? And this one (pointing)? And….
Me: (is a written graduation plan with an “approved” stamp not considered “in writing’?!?!?)
Me: (rewind) Hi, I need to make some changes to my graduation plan so I can graduate in August.
