Blog revival

There have been a few people to do this (some more successful than others) so I thought I’d give it a shot. Thirty-ish days of daily blogging. A 30-day challenge. Three zero. I can do that. (?)

There are tons of challenges floating around the net. Since I don’t like all of even one of them, I’m taking the pick and choose approach.

Today’s topic: write your goals for the month.

Let’s start with the obvious. Take up a 30-day blogging challenge.

You can do anything for a month, right?

So let me take a moment to celebrate our goal for last month. Devin and I took on a sugar fast AND we did it AND we survived.

When friends heard about this adventure there were plenty of questions. What does that mean? Can you eat fruit? Honey? “Sugar free” with artificial sweeteners?

Our goals were to break our habit of daily sweet binges and hopefully “reset” our taste buds so that less was just as satisfying. No cake, cookies, candy, ice cream or the likes. No added sweetener (even honey) to our smoothies or oatmeal. However unsweetened smoothies were a treat.

Our only rule breaking rule was if we were invited to dinner. Then we were aloud to have the dessert offered to us. We laughed yesterday when we realized we weren’t given the opportunity to implement that rule.

I’m glad and proud to say I did it. My two cheats are when I “had” to test Abby’s hot chocolate to make sure it wasn’t too hot and when I had to get her milkshake started in the straw because it was so thick. Devin, unfortunately, was offered a chocolate biscuit while Home Teaching. It would have been rude to refuse. Uh-huh.

This last month has proven beneficial. Today we planned to get doughnuts from our favorite place. My goodness. Too much sugar. Way too sweet. Whipped cream has seen a reduction in sugar from about 2-3 tablespoons of sugar to seriously 3-4 DROPS of honey. Although I was plotting to eat every sweet in the cupboard today, it’s 2pm and I haven’t even opened it. Then again, it’s only 2pm.

Devin lost anywhere from 3 to 15 pounds. I managed not to gain any.

It was an interesting experience. I’d keep going if there were other obvious and immediate benefits like weight loss or energy changes.

I’d do it again…maybe.

So we will see if I am as successful in doing something as I was with not doing something.

  1. It’s fun seeing your blog posts. I definitely need to get back to our blog. And way to go on the sugar fast. That takes real discipline. I’m really impressed.
